World Bank reviews activities underway in rural areas
A World Bank team on 2-day visit to Madhya Pradesh has stressed the need for acclamatising rural livelihood activities. At a workshop here, discussions were held to bring about awareness among people about pilot projects launched for this purpose in Mandla and Barwani districts selected among districts of Madhya Pradesh under National Rural Livelihoods Mission. Suggestions were put forth to include activities conducive to environment apart from linking rural beneficiaries with permanent livelihoods activities. On the occasion, CEO of State Rural Livelihoods Mission Shri L.M. Belwal threw light on the mission’s activities. Senior officers of state and Central governments and office-bearers of voluntary organisations were present on the occasion.
The workshop also discussed ways to disseminate environment-friendly technique of permanent livelihood to rural beneficiaries. World Bank’s environmentalists Sushri Preeti Kukar and Sushri Kalyani Kandiyala, livelihoods expert Shri Shauvik Mitra, finance expert Smt. Manmindar Mamak and Shri S.C. Rajshekhar were present on the occasion apart from Shri Saurav Rai and Shri Philips Mathews of Nation Mission Management and Shri Gunwant Joshi of Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board. Utility of audio-visual means for creating awareness among rural beneficiaries were also discussed at the meeting.
