In a strongly worded communication addressed to the President and Board of Governors of Daly College, he stated that such repeated instances represent a serious breach of institutional neutrality and have caused lasting damage to the reputation, dignity, and independent character of one of India’s most prestigious educational institutions.
He emphasized that Daly College, with its over 140-year legacy, must remain above partisan politics and should not be used—directly or indirectly—as a venue for political gatherings, ideological programmes, or ruling-party affiliated events.
Referring to multiple instances, including events in September 2025, October 2025, February 2026, and preparations for another programme scheduled on April 22, 2026, he noted that the repeated visual and functional association of the campus with partisan activities has created a deeply disturbing pattern. Such occurrences, he stated, risk transforming the public perception of the institution from an independent centre of learning into a venue for political projection.
Digvijaya Singh further underlined that during his tenure as Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, no programme of the Indian National Congress was ever held on the campus of Daly College, reiterating that institutions of this stature must remain insulated from political use, irrespective of which party is in power.
He has called upon the Board of Governors and concerned authorities to immediately clarify the circumstances under which such programmes were permitted, the approvals granted, and the policies governing the use of the campus by external entities. He has also demanded transparency regarding the number of such politically affiliated events held in recent years.
In addition, he has urged the authorities to take immediate corrective steps, including issuing a clear public statement prohibiting the use of the institution for partisan political activities, framing a formal policy to prevent such occurrences in the future, and fixing accountability for any lapses.
“Daly College must not become a backdrop for political symbolism or ideological projection. Its identity as an independent educational institution must be preserved at all costs,” he stated.
He warned that continued silence or inaction would further erode public trust and damage the institution’s standing among students, parents, alumni, and the wider public.
The statement concludes with a strong appeal to uphold the legacy, neutrality, and institutional dignity of Daly College and to ensure that it remains a respected centre of learning, free from partisan influence.
