Rs. 1.50 lakh compensation to wife of Ramesh Bhumia killed by tiger

The state government has provided Rs. 1.50 lakh compensation under the scheme for loss to human life by wild animals to wife of Ramesh Bhumia killed by tiger at Umrar river in Khitauli range of Bandhavgarh tiger reserve. The 22 years old Shri Ramesh Bhumia of village Medra in Barhi tahsil of Katni district was killed in tiger attack on May 27, 2014. Rs. 10 thousand was given to father of the deceased Shri Bindra Bhumia on the day of Shri Ramesh’s death. Later, a cheque of Rs. one lakh 40 thousand was also given to wife of the deceased Smt. Anusuiya Uikey.

The state government has doubled the compensation under the scheme for loss to human life by wild animals. Under the scheme covered under Public Services Delivery Guarantee Act, now Rs. 1.50 lakh compensation is given on loss of life, Rs. one lakh on permanent disability and Rs. 30 thousand on general injury. Earlier, there was no provision for compensation against damage to crops by wild animals. The state government has implemented this provision from year 2008-09. Similarly, provision of 5 kms from forest limit in villages situated in forest limit has also been abolished for the purpose of providing compensation to farmers against loss to their crops by Neelgai and Krishan Mrig. Now, compensation is payable to farmers against such a loss anywhere.
