Agartala. On 26th July 1953 as the young revolutionaries led by Fidel Castro attacked the Moncada barracks, they sent out a message. The message was : in the year of the birth centenary of Jose Marti, the youth of Cuba will never let the legacy of Marti die. Today during the birth centenary of our beloved Fidel, as Cuba faces the most inhuman economic blockades by the Neo Fascist Trump administration, the present generation of Cubans are determined not to let the legacy of Fidel die.
We are ready do everything to preserve our independence and socialism. For us Independence and Socialism are synonymous. Cuba shall never surrender, we will never again become a colony of USA. Said, Huan Carlos Marsan Aguilera the Ambassador of Cuba to India. He was speaking at a meeting to celebrate the birth centenary of Fidel Castro, organised by the Cuba Solidarity Committee, Tripura.
The meeting was attended by hundreds of people. First Secretary of the Cuban Embassy, Prof. Ms. Mikey Diaz Perez, Leader of opposition, Tripura Legislative Assembly, Jitendra Chaudhury and former Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Sarkar too spoke in the meeting.
Jitendra Chaudhury in his speech said, Fidel shall remain a pioneer beyond the borders of Cuba in the struggle against exploitation, tyranny and discrimination. In India as we raise our voice against the US economic blockade of Cuba, we are following our own Indian tradition of supporting peoples unity, solidarity with oppressed people, humanism and peace. We must take inspiration from the life and struggles of Fidel and strengthen the struggle against imperialism in India.
Former Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Sarkar said, Fidel was a legend not only in Cuba but in the entire Latin America in the struggle for people’s liberty. Efforts are afoot in India to disrupt the unity of workers and toiling masses. We must fight against them and advance the struggle for a socialist system free of exploitation.
The programme was presided over by Professor Mihir Deb.
On 20th August a similar meeting was organised in Sabroom, South Tripura. Ambassador Aguilera, First Secretary Perez and Jitendra Chaudhury addressed the meeting.
