TRAI and IMDA Singapore entered into bilateral agreement through an LoI to Strengthen Cooperation in Telecommunications and Broadcasting Regulation- Reg.

Singapore.   The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and the Info-communications Media Development Authority (IMDA) of Singapore signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) on 20 th August, 2026 in Singapore, on the sidelines of the 4th India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR).  The LoI was signed by Shri Harinder Kumar, Secretary, TRAI, and Ms. Aileen Chia, Deputy Chief Executive Officer/Director-General, IMDA, and exchanged in the presence of Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs; Dr. S. Jaishankar, Union Minister for External Affairs; Shri Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry; and Shri Jitin Prasada, Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, along with their Singaporean counterparts and senior officials.



The Singaporean delegation was led by Mr. Gan Kim Yong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry (Trade), and comprised Mr. K. Shanmugam, Senior Minister, Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs; Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Foreign Affairs; Ms. Josephine Teo, Minister for Digital Development and Information and Minister-in-charge of Cybersecurity and Smart Nation Group; and Mr. Jeffrey Siow, Minister for Transport and Second Minister for Finance, along with senior officials.

The LoI seeks to strengthen institutional cooperation and facilitate exchange of knowledge, information, expertise and regulatory experience between TRAI and IMDA in the fields of telecommunications and broadcasting. The cooperation will cover areas of mutual interest, including radio spectrum management, telecommunications market regulation, consumer protection, technical innovation and international cooperation, particularly within the framework of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

The signing of the LoI marks an important step towards further deepening regulatory cooperation between India and Singapore in the rapidly evolving telecommunications and digital sectors. It provides a framework for sustained institutional engagement and exchange of regulatory knowledge, experience and best practices, thereby contributing to the further strengthening of the India-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
